One to One Friendships and Buddying

Volunteer friends are matched to the interests and needs of registered children and young people.

With children up to the age of 11, parents are encouraged to talk to their son or daughter about what organised activity they would like to do. This could be brownies, sports or something else. Then Friends for Leisure will find a volunteer to be a buddy for the young person to go to the activity with.

For young people of 11 and over, Friends for Leisure will aim to find a volunteer for the young person to have a one-to-one friendship with. Then the two can meet up informally and do what friends usually do together - go to the cinema, meet for a coffee, go for a walk or a more organised activity.

Arranging and monitoring successful friendships is very time consuming and to avoid disappointment we seek everyone’s patience.

General help to Access Leisure Activities

Volunteers accompany children and young people to specific groups and club activities like Cubs or Brownies, drama, or sports club, etc.
