Everyone here was delighted when the High Sheriff of Cheshire, Mrs Sarah Callander Beckett chose Friends for Leisure as one of two charities she would support during her term of office. This was with the encouragement of the Cheshire Community Foundation, who were responding to suggestions of charities that address social isolation.
There were several events during the year when funds were raised, including a vintage car rally at Mrs Callander Beckett’s home, Combermere Abbey.
During March, we learned that Peter Beckett, husband of the High Sheriff, would be cycling the Cape Argus – the longest time-trial bike race in the world, held in Capetown, South Africa. He chose to be sponsored for Friends for Leisure.
Peter’s Justgiving page is still open, so further donations can be made! Just click here for more information.
Later, we were delighted that the High Sheriff was able to find time in her packed schedule to come and visit us in the office. That evening, five of us from Friends for Leisure went to the High Sheriff’s Business Awards evening, to sell raffle tickets. It was great to see so many organisations represented and to be part of the evening.
Finally, Gillian, Friends for Leisure’s manager attended a reception at Combermere Abbey and was presented with this lovely award.
Altogether, a great year and we would like to thank Mrs Callendar Beckett very much for choosing Friends for Leisure.
