Very welcome news from the Steve Morgan Foundation

At the end of 2017, we received a very welcome telephone call from the Steve Morgan Foundation. Their trustees had decided that they would support Friends for Leisure’s work for the first time. We were all thrilled.

The Foundation supports organisations that work in a very specific area, and this includes the part of Cheshire East which is on the Welsh side of the M6. We therefore had to do some calculations to find out how many of our young people live in Crewe/ Nantwich/ Sandbach/ Middlewich and points in between, which is 38%.

We asked for the proportion of salary costs for our Volunteer Coordinator, over the next three years, plus the cost of providing training for the volunteers who live in the same area.

Our volunteers are essential. Without them, we could not work in the way we do. Providing us with funding for us to run our volunteer programme is such a help.

Our volunteers are the friends in Friends for Leisure.

Over a year, the volunteers will be offered a programme of training, with each opportunity being the chance to develop skills and knowledge. The programme for 2017-18 included Safeguarding and Child Protection, Boundaries, Mental Health Awareness, Signalong, and Mindfulness; All of this knowledge goes a long way towards making volunteering with Friends for Leisure a more worthwhile experience. It also helps to enhance CVs and university applications.

We would like to thank the Steve Morgan Foundation so much for their support.

You may also like to know that the Steve Morgan Foundation has an “Enable” programme, which provides support for individual people of all ages in financial hardship, who are in need of specialist equipment. This can be:

  • Mobility aids, wheelchairs, buggies, hoists, trikes, etc;
  • Specialised beds and sleep systems, postural chairs, seating and car seats;
  • Sensory equipment;
  • Communication aids, specialised software, specialist alarms; and/or
  • Medical equipment, support wear.
