Hello-I’m Hannah and I’m one of the three Project Workers at Friends for Leisure, supporting young people and their families in Crewe and the surrounding areas. I have been working at FFL since June 2014 and have previously worked with young carers and in primary education after qualifying as a primary school teacher in 2011. Part of my role is to support the young people that register with Friends for Leisure, whether that be inviting them to one of our activities, signposting them to other services or attending meetings alongside their family and other professionals.

My favourite part of my role is planning and delivering youth group activities in Crewe. At first, there was one youth group for all ages, but since September 2015, Crewe Juniors has been included to our activities in Crewe and I love seeing the young people that attend both groups grow in confidence and self-esteem and develop new friendships. It is great fun being part of FFL activities as I get to try all sorts of things like circus skills, sports, pottery making and science workshops. You may have noticed that I am responsible for the FFL email newsletter too!
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my friends and family and spend most weekends with my partner Tom. Over the past couple of years we have taken part in a few challenges together during my journey to lose weight! This started with the Manchester 10K Run in May 2017 where I fundraised for Friends for Leisure, and more recently in June 2018, we completed a 2 mile open water swim at Lake Windermere.

I am still thinking about what my next challenge can be to keep me motivated. In the meantime, I enjoy exercising at the gym and trying new things to keep active. My favourite thing to do at the weekend when I’m not too busy is to take my dog Bella for a long walk somewhere new. Last year we joined over 1000 beagles and their owners at Capesthorne Hall to break the Guinness World Record for the largest single breed dog walk.

One of my favourite hobbies, since I was a child, is tap dancing and when I have the opportunity to attend classes, I do. However, at the moment, there isn’t much time for that as my spare time is filled with studying for an Open University degree in Psychology with Counselling which I am really enjoying.
I also like to travel to new places and my next stop is Barcelona. My favourite place to be is by the sea and if I won the lottery, I would probably buy a big house by the sea in Cornwall. I like eating out with friends and trying new food although I have to be careful at times, due to having a severe nut allergy. You may laugh, but my favourite food is sage and onion stuffing!

If you have met me, you may not expect it but my favourite type of music is rock music. But I do love all types of music so you’ll catch me singing along to things like S Club 7 too! Since being a teenager, I have loved going to concerts and the first concert I ever went to, was P!NK. A recent favourite was seeing one of my favourite bands Evanescence with an orchestra. Next on my list is MUSE in June this year.
