“A HUGE thank you from Josh and from his family for all that you do”.

Looking back on your journey with FFL-can you remember what your social life/confidence etc was like when you first registered and how it may have changed?

Josh was much quieter and shy and didn’t really have many friends to chat to and do activities with.  He loves attending the clubs and has made some really good friends in the group.

Do you feel listened to by Friends for Leisure?

Yes, he absolutely does!  He knows that there is always someone there to talk to and trust.

What do you think Josh gets the most out of from accessing FFL?

Social life, mixing with people who accept him and welcome him into the group.  He has done many different activities that he probably wouldn’t have wanted to do with us.  He is much more confident with other people.

Do you feel safe at FFL activities?

Definitely. The staff are amazing and he completely trusts them and I know that he is safe as the activities are well thought out, explained clearly and safety is there without reducing the fun the group have.

What are your favourite FFL memories?

Going to the theatre!

Have you gained any new interests/hobbies or joined any other groups from learning about them through FFL? He has gained a lot of confidence and is happy to try something new in the comfort of the group, which has been a huge step for Josh.

Have you built friendships through FFL?

Absolutely! He keeps in contact with them out of the group and loves seeing them out and about as well as at the groups.

Has FFL been involved with other services to support you? E.g. attendance at school meetings, CAF meetings, funding support etc.

Yes, we have attended evening sessions that you have organised and this has resulted in us being able to look at supported internships for Josh, which we would never have known about without your support.

How would you rate your experience as a parent carer?

10/10!!

What are the benefits of having an FFL 1-to-1/buddy?

Josh was matched with someone a while ago, but unfortunately it didn’t last as they were unable to continue to see Josh.  It is still something we would be interested in pursuing.

What do you think FFL does well?

Lots of fun activities and bringing together young adults of all abilities and ensures they don’t feel left out and encourages them to do the best they can and be proud of themselves.

Anything else you’d like to say?

Josh says he really enjoys going to FFL and having made friends both with the group and the staff.  So a HUGE thank you from him and from his family for all that you do.

  • As a family we appreciated the empathy from FFL staff. We felt like we weren’t the only ones with problems.
