Fundraising news!
We have an awful lot to update you all this month on what amazing support we have received in 2019 so far:
- A huge thanks goes out to the Edward Gostling Foundation, the Inclosure Trust and Congleton Town Council for supporting our project workers and children’s activities in the Congleton area;
- We are very grateful for financial support from the New Homes Bonus Fund and the Russell Trust for our volunteering programme;
- We now have brand new gaming equipment to use at all of our youth groups thanks to the Percy Bilton Charity;
- We will be running a pilot project in Macclesfield thanks to Macclesfield Town Council – watch out for more information on this as it develops;
- Many thanks to Cheshire East Council for funding the continuation of our popular drama group in Macclesfield;
- An extra special shout-out goes to Alison Cartwright, a parent of one of the children who accesses our services. She raised a fantastic total of £3,000 by holding a Mexican themed fundraiser, which included a meal, drinks and lots of dancing in Sombreros! This incredible amount was shared between Friends for Leisure and East Cheshire Hospice;
- We were also amazed by the impressive £531 raised by our Wilmslow Swimathon team and the match funding from APEM Ltd
- We also have to mention the following amazing individuals/groups/organisations who made donations in early 2019:
- Mrs Benson
- Mr Hough
- The Kidney Unit at Royal Stoke Hospital
- BP Sandbach services
- The Martin Bracegirdle Charitable Foundation
- Probus Ladies group
- Crewe Rotary Club
- Warburtons (Bolton/Runcorn)
- Sir Jules Thorn Charitable Trust (Ann Rylands)

We are pleased to let all our Co-op shoppers know that the company is supporting us this year as one of its chosen causes to benefit from the Community Dividend Scheme locally. So if you visit Co-op Foodstores to pick up your bread and milk, or if you are thinking of investing in a funeral plan at Co-op Funeralcare then remember, you will be helping Friends for Leisure too at no extra effort or cost to you! If you haven’t already got a dividend card then it’s worth signing up for, or if you do, don’t forget to log in online and nominate Friends for Leisure as your benefiting charity. Doing so will make such a difference to the lives of our children and young people with disabilities.

We are excited to share that we had a local runner, Toby Miller, take part in the London Marathon at the end of May in aid of Friends for Leisure. Toby completed the marathon in 3 hours,18 minutes and 38 seconds which, I think you will agree, is very impressive! We would like to say a big thank you to Toby for his fundraising success. He can be sponsored at https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/TobiasMiller
If running is your thing then make sure you check out these running events that you can get involved in that benefit Friends for Leisure at the same time:
